The Certificate IV in Building and Construction (CPC40120) is the step-up qualification for tradespeople and construction workers moving into supervisory and building-management roles. The course covers the knowledge base of a residential and low-rise builder: applying the National Construction Code to Class 1 and 10 and Class 2–9 Type C buildings, structural principles, legal and contractual requirements, WHS management, site set-out, planning and supervision of building work.
Our elective selection follows the Builder occupational stream, adding construction contracts, cost estimating, labour and material scheduling, procurement, project quality management and energy-efficient building science, together with tendering and team leadership. This mirrors the commercial reality of running building projects — pricing the job, securing it, resourcing it and delivering it.
Delivered face-to-face at our Brisbane and Gold Coast campuses, the program suits graduates of trade qualifications and experienced construction workers alike. It is a recognised step in the study pathway toward builder licensing in most Australian jurisdictions (licensing requirements vary by state and territory and include experience and other criteria set by the regulator).
Course fees vary by intake and payment plan. For the current fee schedule, payment options and any applicable material fees, please contact our Admissions team at admin@empower.edu.au or call 1300 000 342. International students should also review the fee and refund information provided in their Letter of Offer.
Graduates are prepared for supervisory and management roles across building and construction projects.
Graduates may progress to diploma-level building, construction management or leadership qualifications, including BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management offered at Empower International College.
